Asia is home to more than half the world's population, with countries that are rich in history, diverse in culture and society, and increasingly significant in contemporary global politics and economy.
The Asian Studies Program at Bowdoin offers an interdisciplinary approach to the study of Asia that spans the regions of East Asia, South Asia, and the Asian diaspora.
In addition to language study, students may take courses in anthropology, art history, cinema, government, history, literature and culture, music, religion, and sociology.
The Program offers a major in Asian studies as well as minors in Asian studies, Chinese, and Japanese. We encourage students to study abroad during their junior year and to develop individual research projects.
